UPDATE: 'Thor' Chris Hemsworth, frontrunner as Huntsman in 'Snow White' [PHOTOS]
The Hollywood Reporter says Hemsworth is in talks to join the big-budget fairy tale adaptation and the ‘Thor’ star began talks with Universal last week and the studio has reportedly entered negotiations today.
'Thor' star, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has remained the frontrunner as the Huntsman for 'Snow White and the Huntsman' as Universal picture is reportedly keen on getting him as Snow White's protector. The fairy tale by Universal has entered into negotiations with Hemsworth after weeks of on and off talks with top Hollywood actors who have been in the running for the job.
The search for the lead male role in Universal's fairy tale has been on and off and the studio has reportedly sat down with a number of talented and even actors with longer list of projects in their portfolios. But after hammering his way to the top North American box office chart of its opening over the weekend, the star for 'Thor' is likely to get the part.
Hemsworth is set to play opposite Kristen Stewart who bagged the female leading role as Snow White. In the film, the Huntsman played by Hemsworth was ordered to kill Snow White, played by Stewart but instead of finishing his task, the Huntsman decided to let her go and helped her escape.
The film is expected to be released in December 2012.
An earlier report by IBTimes citing The Holllywood Reporter, Hemsworth has reportedly begun to talk with the studio last week but Universal has only entered into the negotiations today.
Now that the sun and moon have clearly been on his side, Chris Hemsworth is expected to play Snow White’s protector and mentor.
The film will be directed by Rupert Sanders and it also features Charlize Theron as the evil queen and Sam Claflin as K-Stew’s love interest. Claflin who plays the prince in Snow White has also appeared in the new 'Pirates of Caribbean'.
‘Snow White’ is a centuries-old fairy tale about a huntsman ordered to kill Snow White in the woods. But instead of taking her life as asked, the huntsman gave her another chance for life and the two escaped together.
The movie is set to be released on December 21, 2012 and as reported earlier by IBTimes, the film is expected to have a dogfight battle in theaters against the ‘Snow White’ version of Relativity Media set to hit theaters in June 2012.
