“Underworld 5: Next Generation” has officially begun shooting with returning cast members and newcomers.

The news broke after Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment released information to the press about the details of the filming.

Anna Foerster, who has worked as a cinematographer on blockbuster films such as “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow," is the directing the film from script penned by Cory Goodman.

The cast and crew are currently in Czech capital where the entire filming will take place. Kate Beckinsale leads the cast as Selene, a vampire death-dealer, while Theo James is returning to reprise his role as Selene’s vampire ally named David.

British actors Tobias Menzies and Lara Pulver are playing new villains. They have joined the cast as the new Lycan leaders. Charles Dance, meanwhile, returns to reprise his role as the vampire elder Thomas. Other cast members include James Faulkner and Peter Anderson. Newcomers Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James and Daisy Head are also in the film.

The fifth instalment of the film follows Selene from where “Underworld: Awakening” left off. In the fourth instalment, she stopped Lycans' plan to create super lycans by using her daughter’s DNA. In the process, she also saved her lover and the father of her child, Michael, who fled the scene. Towards the end of the film, she plans to reunite with Michael to take back the world from humans and lycans.

The “Underworld” franchise is an action-horror film series based on characters created by Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman and Danny McBride. The film franchise is relatively successful with profits amassing AU$632 million since 2003.

“Underworld 5: next Generation” is set for release on Oct. 21, 2016.
