“Under the Dome” Season 3 is set to premiere on Thursday, June 25, with a two-hour long episode. The new season will see residents of Chester's Mill trying to figure out the purpose of the dome and what it expects from them. Neal Baer and Tim Schlattmann, executive producers of the show, have said that the new season will answer all the unanswered questions related to the dome.

“We will tell you why the dome came down and what it’s about. By the end of the season, you’ll know exactly why this happened the way that it happened,” Baer said at a CBS summer press event, as quoted by TV Line.

[Spoilers Alert] “Under the Dome” Season 2 final-episode, titled "Go Now," ended on multiple cliffhangers, with Melanie appearing, surrounded by bright light, on the other side of the crater’s tunnel wall. The episode also saw Big Jim killing Rebecca and Andrea. He wanted to kill all the special friends of the dome too, including Julia. The latter fortunately escaped and Junior shot his dad to stop him from following her and reach the opening of the crater. Julia, however, was unable to join Barbie and rest of the people, as she got stuck on the other side of the chasm. Junior joined her and Barbie went back to the group of inhabitants of Chester’s Mill to help them escape and promising Julia that he will come back for her. [Spoiler Alert]

Meanwhile, Schlattmann said that in “Under the Dome” Season 3 they will address questions such as what made the dome come down on Chester’s Mill after 25 years and what “was in play 25 years ago that set all this in motion,” TV Line reported. And Marg Helgenberger’s character would be providing some of the answers.

Helgenberger has signed on to play Christine Pine, an anthropologist. She is a long-time inhabitant of Chester’s Mill. Speaking about the new character, TV Line has quoted Baer as saying that Christine is the “new resident of Chester’s Mill, and yet [she’s] been there this whole time. That’s the driving engine of this season: How is that even possible?”
