United Nations Chief, Ban Ki Moon has strongly condemns any use of nuclear weapons as he asserted in a statement following North Korea’s declaration of war against the South, noting that that the crisis may have already “gone too far.”

“Nuclear threats are not a game. Aggressive rhetoric and military posturing only result in counter-actions, and fuel fear and instability," Ban said in a statement at a news conference held in Andorra, according to NBC News.

The UN Secretary General who was on official visit in Andorra when he issued the statement, expressed concern over the nuclear threats that had even prompted China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to begin mobilizing its military in the perimeters of the Korean peninsula after North Korea has declared that the relationship between the North and the South is “finally over.”

Fearing that the initial declaration, seen by the South as an old threats “dressed in new clothing” could spiral out of control, Ban offered to facilitate peace talks. It is unclear however if the North is amenable to any suggested peace talks with South.

Ban was the Minister for South Korea’s Foreign Affairs before he was elected as the influential Secretary General of the United Nations. Succeeding former UN Chief Kofi Anan, Ban was the eighth UN chief when he took office in 2007. Before his high-profile post, Ban was also South Korea’s Foreign Minister from 2004 to 2006. The post had allowed Ban to gain the necessary information that will help him facilitate peace talks between the two Koreas.

Meanwhile, the Korea Centreal News Agency (KCNA) has posted in its website an article titled “Intensidied Anti-U.S. Action Called For.” It expressed discontent to the United States and its continued military exercises with the South.

“North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration clearly proves that the U.S. imperialists' scenario to launch a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula at any cost has reached an extremely reckless phase of its implementation,” the statement said, according to NBC News. .

It added: “As already clarified by the DPRK [North Korea], gone are the days when it could have verbal exchange with them.”.

“To wage a merciless, just, retaliatory war is the only way of rooting out the source of the danger of a nuclear war on this land and build a peaceful and prosperous reunified thriving nation where all Koreans live together,” the statement also said.
