Reports revealed that in the past five years, 25 young women in the UK have decided to go through IVF (in vitro fertilization) to get pregnant despite the fact that most of them have never had sex. These young women are in their twenties, heterosexual and have stable jobs.

The top two reasons these women gave for choosing IVF are: 1.) some of these women felt they are ready for parenthood and the future but have no time to wait for the right father for their children, and 2.) a number of them are experiencing psychosexual complications that prevented them from performing the sexual act.

Quite a number of religious groups are against this set-up; advocating that a child must be brought up in a traditional family with both parents playing a big role in the child’s upbringing. But on the other hand, advocators of ‘virgin births’ underscore the fact that most of the single women who opted for IVF are more financially and emotionally stable compared to women who opted for a partner but later on after the relationship broke up has to bring up the child alone.

Many people believe that IVF and artificial insemination are not just the future of couples who cannot get pregnant but will soon become an acceptable means to start a family whether you are alone or with a partner.
