Ubisoft is reaching even deeper in the Southeast Asian territory. What expansion brings is the first major gaming studio in the Philippines. The developer announced that the second quarter of 2016 will be greeted with the opening of Ubisoft Philippines.

At the official Ubisoft Blog, the developer confirmed that hiring has begun, with the goal of having 50 personnel trained in the art of AAA game development. The office will be set in Santa Rosa Laguna, which is a bit south of the central city of Manila. As a start-up branch, Ubisoft Philippines will have close ties with Ubisoft Singapore, with training coming directly from some of Singapore’s finest developers.

“We have huge ambition for this team, who will play a part in creating some of Ubisoft’s bigger and most beloved games,” said Chip Go, Ubisoft Philippines studio manager.

The training and development of the Philippine team is not the only task of Ubisoft Singapore. It appears that the studio is preparing itself in creating one of the upcoming big titles for Ubisoft. According to GameSpot,it seems that Ubisoft Singapore will be part of a new project considered biggest when it comes to consoles and PC titles. The studio has not yet detailed what it plans to do as a project, and whether it will be a new title or part of a franchise from Ubisoft or from the local studio.

Ubisoft Singapore has an extensive range of titles, with 10 AAA titles to its name and a PC online game “Ghost Recon: Phantoms.” The studio also played a part in “Assassin’s Creed 3,” most notably the naval battles that became a sort of template for succeeding “AC” games.

The expansion of the studio into Southeast Asian territories will try to expand the pool of talent, starting with mentoring the people who will be in Ubisoft Philippines. This appears to be one of Ubisoft main goals for 2016, as it will not be launching an “Assassin’s Creed” title this year.
