A pair of twins in San Diego in the US has created a strange kind of a record. They were born minutes apart but in two different years – 2015 and 2016.

The two babies were born at San Diego Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center at 11:59 p.m. on Dec 31, 2015 and 12:02 a.m. on Jan 1, 2016, reports the NBC San Diego. As a result the twins will have different dates of birth.

The twins were born to 22-year-old Maribel Valencia and her husband Luis. Maribel delivered the babies over the New Year weekend just two minutes apart, but interestingly, on different dates in different years.

At the time of birth, Jaelyn weighed four pounds and 15 ounces, while Luis weighed five pounds and nine ounces. A Kaiser spokesperson confirmed the children and their mother were happy and healthy following the delivery.

The excited parents cancelled their special New Year celebration plans to welcome the babies, who were actually scheduled to be delivered by Cesarean section on January 6, 2016. Fate, however, had something else stored for Maribel and her husband, who already have another daughter named Isabella, aged three.

“It’s pretty much the best of both worlds,” Luis Valencia, the proud father, told Fox News. “So that means two birthday parties back-to-back.”

Maribel works as a cashier at San Diego International Airport, while husband Luis is a Navy diesel mechanic.

New Year babies are the talk of the town in Coventry in England too, with the University Hospital there delivering five of them, according to the Coventry Telegraph. Poppy Florence Langley was believed to be the first baby born in the city in 2016. In Oklahoma in the US, Heather Nunley brought in her little one 25 days earlier to welcome 2016 in style, reports News Channel 4.
