Troye Sivan's tour in Australia got cancelled two weeks ago as he fell ill with a serious case of laryngitis. He is still very upset about it because he had to cancel his first shows in the country, just days before he was set to release his debut album, “Blue Neighbourhood.” The album is out now and Sivan is set to play at the Enmore Theatre on Jan. 13, 2016.

The Guardian reports that the Internet sensation’s album marks the arrival of a bold and bright new talent. His song “Youth,” is a mix of interwoven emotions played in “electro-tinged gloom-pop.” Sivan’s other songs such as “Suburbia” and “Talk Me Down,” deal with suburban boredom and the yearning for physical contact. “Wild” and “Youth” have a hint of melancholy.

The 20-year-old artist has won prizes at the 2015 YouTube Music Awards as well as Nickelodeon (Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award 2015 for Favorite Aussie/Kiwi Internet Sensation). He is one of the most influential upcoming young artists. His songs have entered the Top 10 charts in the US, Australia, Germany and Denmark.

Sivan, who is also an actor, has appeared in many films including Hugh Jackman’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Spud .” However, he chose music as his primary creative outlet.

He used to make electronic pop tracks from home and never considered radio, television or magazines. No one expected the singer-songwriter to come up with an album or for that matter, live shows. But here he is: being primed for stardom. It can be largely attributed to Sivan's talent as well as his influence on social media, which he uses to continuously communicate with his fans from all over the world.

Despite Sivan’s luck in the entertainment industry, he still had to overcome some personal hurdles, including admitting that he is gay. He informed his family about being gay in 2010, when he was just 15 years old.

Three years later, he thought it was time to tell his fans. Sivan confessed his sexual orientation to the world on Aug. 7, 2013 through his YouTube channel. However, he was extremely nervous as most of his fan base is composed of young girls. He knew that breaking the news of his sexuality was a tricky deal. The said video titled "Coming Out," has been viewed 6,115,377 since it was posted in 2013. As of this writing, it has earned 440,562 likes.

However, the looming question is whether Troye Sivan is just another Internet sensation or a genuine talent. Does he have the capability to pull off a successful career especially now that EMI Music Australia has invested a lot for his debut album? It remains to be seen if Sivan will be able to replicate, if not surpass the success of his fellow YouTube sensation Justin Bieber.
