The title of “Transformers 5” hints at the plot of the movie. Paramount has announced that the title of the movie is “The Last Knight” and it will be released on June 23, 2017. Production of the movie will begin next month with Michael Bay back at the helm.

[Spoiler alert]

In the 2014 movie “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the ending hinted at what the next movie was going to be about. Optimus Prime and the others went into deep space to seek out the “Creators.” The movie focused on the mercenary Lockdown attempting to capture the leader of the Autobots and the Dinobots, and planned to take them to the Creators.

It was not entirely clear why the Creators wanted them. Lockdown said that they wanted to “wipe the slate clean.” The movie also briefly touched upon the concept of Knights of Cybertron. Apparently Optimus is one of them and the Dinobots also have a connection to them.

What this means is that “Transformers 5” will have more of Dinobots and it will explore the Knights of Cybertron in more detail. According to the comics, Knights of Cybertron refers to the very first robots ever made.

Since Optimus is one of the knights; it means he was there from the very beginning. The leader of the Autobots has always been the centre of all the movies, from leading his group to inheriting the Matrix of Leadership. The next movie will once again put the spotlight on him.

The 2014 movie had very few scenes with the Dinobots. It remains to be seen whether they will play a bigger role in the next movie.

Mark Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager in “Transformers 5.” Peter Cullen is expected to be the voice of Optimus Prime. Stephen Merchant is rumoured to be joining the movie. More casting announcements are expected to be made soon.
