Ron Vlaar's agent, Arnold Oosterveer, believes that the time is right for the Aston Villa defender to make a "big move" amid interests from Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.

The 29-year-old skipper was solid at the back for the Dutch national team during the previous World Cup, helping his side reach the semi-finals and eventually finish third, and is seemingly in his best form.

His contract is set to expire in June 2015 and with an extension still not in place, the probability of Vlaar joining top-flight rivals in January is likely.

"It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious," said Oosterveer.

"The situation is ideal for Ron right now."

"You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don't want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious."

The Old Trafford outfit are perceived to be frontrunners, as Louis van Gaal, who was also his mentor in the national side, might play a significant factor in his decision making, while the Gunners will be very persistent in acquiring him since they have yet to fill the void left due to departures by Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou last summer.

Meanwhile, Vlaar recently confirmed that while he has been discussing with Villa manager Paul Lambert about signing a new deal, but nothing has been formalised yet.

"I have spoken to the gaffer a few times [about a new deal] but that is it so far," said the former Feyenoord man.
