Newcastle United were able to snatch Dutch international defender Daryl Janmaat, who is expected to fill the resulting void brought about by the Mathieu Debuchy departure.

The attack-minded 24-year-old joins the Tyneside outfit fresh from a third-place finish in the World Cup with the Netherlands under Louis van Gaal, wherein he started three of five appearances, contributing two assists in the process.

"Newcastle is a fantastic club, with a big history and a great stadium. I have also been told all about how great the fans are," said the Leidschendam native.

"This is the perfect move for me, and I am really looking forward to being with the team and getting started here at Newcastle."

Meanwhile, Magpies manager Alan Pardew is extremely delighted with coming out successfully of what seems to be a bargain signing, as Janmaat is suggested to have just cost him around £5million.

"He is the perfect example of a modern full-back; someone who is good defensively but offers a real threat going forward as well," said Pardew.

"Daryl had an excellent World Cup and we are looking forward to him continuing that form for Newcastle."
