'Top Gun: Maverick' will be filming in San Diego this month

Production of the highly anticipated action flick “Top Gun: Maverick” continues. This month the cast and crew will reportedly film in San Diego. Details about which of the cast members will be involved in this shoot hasn’t been revealed yet, but more details can be expected in the coming weeks.

According to a report by TheSanDiegoUnion-Tribune a spokesperson for the San Diego’s film office has said that the cast and crew will be there in the city by late September to continue filming. The production here will last for about a month, and it will wrap in October.

Tom Cruise (Maverick) was in San Diego back in May to film a few scenes for the upcoming film. This has reportedly been done in order to meet the June 1 deadline for a financial grant from California.

One of the very first scenes from set teased Cruise riding a motorcycle along an airstrip. The fans of the franchise who have watched the 1986 film will remember the iconic scene of the character riding a bike right next to a fighter jet taking off. Something similar can be expected in the sequel.

The production crew has also been busy filming scenes of planes taking off on an aircraft carrier. A 15-person crew from Paramount Pictures and Bruckheimer Films reportedly filmed F/A-18 Super Hornets taking off and landing on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln.

It remains to be seen what fighter jets will be featured in the film, and more importantly what jet Maverick will use while training a new batch of pilots.

Some of the modern fighter jets that Maverick can choose from are the F-22 Raptor and the F-35A Lightening. The F-14 fighter, which was used extensively for the 1986 film, may also be back, to give the fans a sense of nostalgia.
