It’s been reported that Tom Cruise wants to cast Prince Harry in a “Top Gun” sequel. Buckingham Palace or the British royal is yet to comment on the actor’s request. However, the film’s casting agent has revealed some reasons why having the prince on board would be good for the movie.

According to the Daily Star, an American casting agent said having Prince Harry as cast in a “Top Gun” sequel would benefit the film. “His involvement would be a huge PR coup for the movie,” the agent told the publication in an exclusive interview.

However, the agent explained that casting Prince Harry in the film would not just be for gimmick purposes. Tom Cruise reportedly wanted the British royal to star in the sequel so he could offer “real experience and knowledge of flying in combat. “

It is understandable why Tom Cruise, who starred in the original “Top Gun” film in the 80s, would want to cast the 30-year old prince. Prince Harry has had combat experiences and knows how to pilot a fighter plane. He is a certified Army helicopter pilot.

UK’s Now Magazine added that the prince is an experienced Apache pilot. His experiences under the Army Air Corps will definitely come handy in the film. The casting agent said these skills and personal experiences are likely to take centre stage if Prince Harry will be cast in the sequel.

“Harry has been on the frontline in Afghanistan, so he has the credentials to stand tall in the film,” the agent said.

Tom Cruise is said to be a fan of the royal family, so much so that he wants Prince Harry to be his co-pilot when he reprises his role as rogue pilot Maverick in the “Top Gun” sequel. The 53-year old has reportedly asked his team to convince Buckingham Palace to allow the prince to star in the film. According to the casting agent, Tom has even suggested that perhaps Prince Harry can donate his salary from the film to charity. He is supposedly also hoping that his good friend David Beckham, who has ties to the British royal family, can put in a good word for him to Buckingham Palace.
