Google has released the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update in hopes of addressing the bugs and issues associated with the original version. However, the new Android fix has also caused another set of problems including a memory leak and installation lags.

The memory leak bug has been causing issues opening apps and reloading the home screen. Once the apps crash, the bug forces the device to leak the RAM. Google's Android Issue Tracker saw a number of people pointing out the bug. An excerpt of the complaint from one of the users goes: "When play music crashed in the background today, with maps navigation running in the forefront, system ram usage was at 780mb."

The user also notes that RAM usage went up at 280MB.

Google has decided to address the issue with the company noting "Future Release" on the status of the closed thread. The official rollout should be coming anytime soon. The user continues: "Maps ram usage was at 280mb. The play music process was stuck in 'restarting' status until I swiped it out of recents and restarted it. This was after around 48 hours uptime."

As for the installation problem, this is similar to the original Lollipop release. Nexus and other users complained about the download lagging or stopping midway. Some users were not able to complete the download or install the update. According to Gotta Be Mobile, possible reasons include: unlocked bootloader, rooted device and installed custom ROM. To solve the installation issue, users need to kill their root, lock the bootloader and restore the OS to the stock version.

If the rest of the procedures mentioned did not work then it is best to wipe the cache partition of the device. Users must boot their devices to Recovery then wipe the entire partition. Do this by pressing power and volume down buttons. The entire process can take around 10-15 minutes.
