With 2015 behind, today’s leading console is gearing itself up for another great year of video gaming ahead. Sony’s PlayStation 4 has its fair share of third-party games coming up this year but the highlight will remain on some exclusives that's sure to provide gamers with countless hours of gaming. Similar to the upcoming Wii U exclusives coming this year, Sony’s lineup looks impressive as it brings forth some new titles but it also includes some returning fan favourites looking to leave a mark on their fans once again.

The Last Guardian

Perhaps one of the most sought-after games by players is “The Last Guardian.” The game has been in development since 2007. The development process was spearheaded by the developers of “Shadow of Colossus” and “Ico,” Team Ico. It was officially revealed in 2009 and was given a 2011 release date. After some time, the game was unexpectedly called off. It resurfaced once again during E3 2015 and it is now scheduled to release sometime this year.

“The Last Guardian” follows the tale of a giant griffin-like creature named Trico. The player will control the protagonist as he orders Trico to perform a wide-array of tasks to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. What makes the game highly anticipated is that it’s developed by the maker of “Shadow of Colossus” and “Ico,” two of the best PlayStation 2 classics there is.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Naughty Dog’s action-packed series is nearing its epic conclusion with the last chapter called “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End." This last entry will bring back Nathan Drake and the same old formula found in previous titles that players have known to love. Aside from this, fans should expect new features as well as they take on yet another epic adventure with Nathan and his crew.

The game was originally scheduled to launch March 11 this year. However, Naughty Dog moved the release date to April 26 so that it could further polish the final product for it to launch without any major issues.

Final Fantasy XV

The upcoming “Final Fantasy XV” is Square Enix’s main game in the beloved RPG franchise after “Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns.” The game has had its fair share of development woes since it started being developed back in 2006, but it was officially confirmed last year that the game will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year. Additionally, Square Enix gave fans a taste of the game with a demo titled “Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae” that's included in physical copies of “Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.”

The game will place players in the shoes of Noctis and his allies in a modern-day world on the brink of war. “Final Fantasy XV” will feature a vast open-world, amazing visuals and a new combat system which looks more fast-paced as compared to past titles.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Yet another PlayStation 4 exclusive is the upcoming action-RPG, “Horizon: Zero Dawn.” The game will put players in the shoes of an archer and hunter named Aloy. Aloy will explore a visually stunning post-apocalyptic open-world filled with mountains, forests and remnants of a destroyed civilization. Throughout her journey, Aloy will take on mechanical beasts ranging from agile deer-like mechs to giant dinosaur robots.

The gameplay trailer for “Horizon: Zero Dawn” shows off a smooth combat system partnered with an impressively detailed open-world. No exact release date has been pegged for the game yet but it will launch this year.

Street Fighter V

The next entry in Capcom’s fighting series seems to kick things up a notch with the upcoming “Street Fighter V.” The game will feature the same formula found in standard fighting games but what makes “Street Fighter V” unique from past titles is that players can make use of the V-Skill and V-Trigger feature to dish out combos for devastating damage. The game looks visually stunning especially with the cel-shaded graphics and the redesign of some “Street Fighter” mainstays.

“Street Fighter V” will launch on Feb. 16 for the PlayStation 4 and the PC. It is set to launch with 16 characters featuring four newcomers and 12 returning favourites. The game is also confirmed to have six DLC characters hitting the game within this year. Players can buy the characters with real-life money but they could also use the in-game currency to purchase them as well.
