After the much-awaited royal birth, one of the most-asked questions is the name of the royal baby.

Picking up the name of the next ruler of England is probably one of the most difficult tasks for his parents. This is the current dilemma of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

It is part of the tradition to pay tribute to name the baby after someone who is dearest to them. Prince William may pay tribute to his mother - Princess Diana.

Usually, members of the royal family have three other names added to their first name. For example, William Arthur Philip Louis is the full name of Prince William.

Then, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will have to notify the Queen of their chosen names for courtesy and to seek her approval.

Royal baby names are not usually revealed right after birth. It may take weeks and months, especially since the Duke and Duchess decided not to find out its gender beforehand.

In the past, it took a week before Prince William's name was announced.

While the public speculate, below are the top five baby names for the new prince.

Henry - The royal couple could name their son after the King Henry VIII of England. The new prince could be Henry IX.

Philip - Philip is one of the most voted names in polls if the royal baby is a boy. Philip is one of the most used royal names in Europe such as the husband of Queen Elizabeth as well as the former rulers of France and Spain.

Charles - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may name the kid after Prince William's father - Prince Charles. The couple may name the new born prince Charles II.

George - George is the name of the patron saint of England. A legend told that George slayed a dragon in exchange for a promise with the king of Libya to have the latter's constituents baptized.

Alexander - The name was popularized by the late Alexander the Great who conquered much of Asia. This prince is bound for greatness being the third in line for the King's throne of England.

However, the couple may go against the tradition and pick a modern name for their son such as Bono or Bobby. It is still up to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to decide the name of the new addition to the well-loved royal family.
