The year 2015 will be welcomed with a bunch of Snapdragon 615-powered smartphones from different OEMs, prior to releasing the flagship devices. The 64-bit smartphones include Samsung Galaxy A7, HTC Desire 820, Oppo R5 and Vivo X5 Max. Although, these smartphones house "predominantly" high-end features, they fall under upper mid-range category of devices with modest price tags.

In case, readers are wondering what is so special about the 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor, here is the breakdown of the hardware module. The aforesaid processor uses an octa-core 64-bit CPU architecture, bundled with "Category 4" 4G LTE support. The CPU is moulded by a combination of four 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and an additional four Cortex-A53 cores, clocked at 1 GHz. This combination is paired with the latest Adreno 405 GPU for graphics, a Hexagon V50 modem and app DSP. Adding a cherry on top, this processor also supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology to rapidly decrease the device charging time, explains Phone Arena.

HTC Desire 820

In general, the upper mid-range phones, along with the budget-friendly phones, work very well in emerging markets. This HTC handset in particular is one of the most-awaited devices from HTC. Speaking of key specifications, the HTC Desire 820 features a 5.5-inch display, complemented by a modest yet good-enough 720p resolution. As expected, the handset is powered by none-other-than the Snapdragon 615 processor and backed by a good 2 GB of RAM. Other features include 16 GB internal storage capacity with expandable memory, 13 MP camera unit with LED flash and a 2600 mAh battery unit. With reference to price, the Desire 820 will set the buyers back by roughly $350.

Oppo R5

The impressive Oppo is gearing up to release it wafer-thin R5 smartphone, which is only 0.19-inch thick. The flip side, however, is that the device does not come with a 3.5 mm audio jack. Nonetheless, the key features include a 5.2-inch AMOLED display, 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution, Snapdragon 615 SoC, 2 GB of RAM, 13 MP Sony Exmor RS (IMX214) sensor and a 2,000 mAh battery unit. Vivo X5 Max

Vivo's innovative design has always stood out and this time around, the company has built the world's slimmest smartphone named X5 Max. Considered as Oppo's rival, this handset comes with just 0.18-inch thickness. The main difference between Oppo and Vivo is that, the X5 Max handset houses a 3.5 mm audio jack, in addition to offering two SIM slots. As far as the key specifications go, the Vivo X5 Max features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, 1080p resolution, 64-bit processor, Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of memory and 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor. Samsung Galaxy A7

Samsung's metal-clad, upper mid-range smartphone is the Galaxy A7. Having abandoned the plastic look, the Galaxy A7 features a 5.5-inch display, 1080p resolution, 64-bit processor, 2 GB of RAM, 13 MP camera, 5 MP selfie camera, 16 GB of storage and a 2600 mAh battery unit. However, Samsung has not revealed the pricing details of this handset yet.
