One of the cornerstone games for the then prominent LucasArts game company, “Grim Fandango” was considered by many to be a cult-classic adventure game, thanks to the comedic writing and enjoyable characters. This game, along with “Day of the Tentacle” gave developer Tim Schaefer a cult following and has lead to other cult hits like “Psychonauts.” Now, fans will be able relive their nostalgia, as they can play “Grim Fandango Remastered” on their mobile devices.

The original game came out way back in 1998 for the PC, so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the game gives fans cleaner and more detailed character models, as well as better lighting effects to help the game fit more into the noir atmosphere. Fans also have the choice of sticking with the older and blockier graphical style if that’s what they would prefer.

According to Pocket Gamer, Schaefer and his company Double Fine really wanted to make “Grim Fandango Remastered” feel special, so the game’s soundtrack has been re-recorded with a live orchestra. In addition to the sharper graphics and new recordings, hardcore fans of the game will appreciate the two hours of director’s commentary about the cult classic.

Gameplay-wise nothing much has changed, aside from the aforementioned features regarding the game’s graphics and soundtrack. The game is still a point-and-click adventure game that revolves around protagonist Manny Calavera, who sends dead souls on their way to the Ninth Underworld, with different conditions depending on how they lived their lives.

After a soul must walk to the Ninth Underworld, despite leading a good life that should have gotten the Number Nine train, the best way to travel to the Ninth Underworld, Manny does some investigating. Soon enough, Manny discovers a mystery and must rely on his wits to find out what’s going on.

Normally, the game would cost $14.99 for iOS and Android devices, but the “Grim Fandango Remastered” mobile version has a launch sale price of $9.99 as stated by Touch Arcade. So players interested in some 90’s nostalgia should pick up the title while it’s still cheap. “Grim Fandango Remastered” is also available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Linux and DOS.
