Muslims around the world started a trend of posting comments on the hashtag #MuslimsAreNotTerrorist on Twitter to voice their opinion against the Muslim attackers in Paris and misinterpretations of the Islamic faith.

The gruesome terror attacks in Paris on Friday unleashed a sea of comments on Twitter with the hashtag. It was mentioned over 267,000 times.

People used the social networking platform to support and separate Islam from the crimes committed in Paris. The comments reaffirm Islam as a religion doesn’t support the murderous ideology of Isis, reports the Independent.

Most of the tweets were posted by Muslims across the globe trying to fight against anti-Islamic prejudice. There are people from other communities who raised their voice against generalising Islam as a religion of violence.

On Twitter, Muslims across the world expressed deep shock and grief after the terrorist attacks in Paris. There are Tweets mentioning that, “Please never forget, terrorists do this to Muslim countries every day…!”

A Tweet by Alex Malloy went viral on Twitter. The New Yorker explained his conversation with a Muslim cab driver over the course of a 25-minute ride from Columbus Circle to Washington Heights. The ardent message was retweeted 55,309 times.

“These are our brothers and sisters as humankind, we are all humans underneath this skin. And they deserve nothing more than our respect and attention. Please stop viewing these beautiful human beings as enemies because they are not”, wrote Malloy in his tweet.
