Tesla’s new electronic luxury car is reported to cost $122,812, including Australian Luxury Car Tax rates, at entry level rates. The Model X 60D comes with a five seat interior but can be upgraded to a six and seven seat interior, which will cost an extra US$3000 (AU$4000) and US$4000 (AU$5337) respectively. The Tesla Model X units are scheduled to be delivered late September.

The Model X 75D is priced at around US$86,700 (AU$115,650), the 90D at US$96,700 (AU$128,990) and the P90D at US$116,700 (AU$155,670) including the destination and document fee. Tesla offers a wide range of upgrades available for the Model X upon ordering.

Model X’s product page features a calculator that displays the time and cost it requires to charge the unit depending on the distance. Additionally, it calculates the gasoline savings based on 20mpg at US$2.90 per gallon.

Tesla claims the Model X to be the best SUV in history:

“Model X is the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history. With all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery providing 257 miles of range, Model X has ample seating for seven adults and all of their gear. And it’s ludicrously fast, accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour in as quick as 3.2 seconds. Model X is the SUV uncompromised. ”

Tesla’s Model X was designed using the floor-mounted battery to lower the car’s centre of gravity. This reduces the risk of rollover, which Tesla claims to be “half of any vehicle in its class,” in Model X. The gasoline engine was replaced with a “large front trunk which acts as a giant impact-absorbing crumple zone.”

Model X features the ability to scan the surrounding roadway using camera, radar and sonar systems. The continuous scanning provides the driver with real time feedback that can help to avoid accidents. Tesla boasts an automatic emergency brake system that works even at highway speeds.

No stone was left unturned as Tesla fitted Model X’s air filter with a medical grade HEPA filter. The filter ensures that outside air is stripped of bacteria, viruses, pollen and pollution before reaching the car cabin. Model X features a “bioweapon defence mode” that protects occupants by creating a positive pressure.

Tesla Model X is designed with Falcon Wings for second row seat access and the largest panoramic windshield in production. The seating limit can be upgraded to three rows and the last two rows can be folded away for more cargo area.
