The Model X houses a 90 kilowatt-hours battery which can drive 250 miles on a single charge and with a maximum speed of 155mph the car is able to hit 60mph in 3.2 seconds from start. Another model with a smaller battery is expected to come up with lower price tag. All the models will with all-wheel drive, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Tesla claims it to be the “safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history.” The all-electric vehicle has been designed with major emphasis on safety and security. A range of sensors, like camera, radar and sonar systems, provides real-time feedback about the surroundings to avoid accident.

Furthermore, the sensors can adjust the height of the car to escape the garage ceilings and seats can be adjusted separately. It also has a HEPA air filter and a bioweapon defence mode to circulate bacteria free fresh air.

At the launch event Tesla showcased the top “Signature” Model X priced between US$132,000 and US$144,000 (AU$187164 to AU$203,966). The Guardian reports, Tesla will take 8 to 12 months to deliver to customers in the U.S.

Established in 2003, Tesla is the pioneer in the U.S. in manufacturing luxury electric cars charged with batteries. Tesla Roadster, the electric sports car which is no longer in production, was the first car unveiled by the company. Triggering issues delayed the launch plan of Model X, which was originally announced in 2012.
