Telecommunication giant Telstra, in collaboration with its technology partner Ericsson, has claimed to have achieved the fastest ever network by pulling 1Gbps over its existing 4G network.

Telstra Network’s Group Managing Director Mike Wright announced on Telstra’s Exchange Blog that the company and Ericsson achieved “a world first testing 1GBps speed capability on a commercial mobile network,” which promises even faster speeds and enhanced consumer experience.

The companies performed a test using four different radio frequency spectrum bands having five carriers for very high long term evolution-advanced or LTE-A, bit rates. According to IT News, the telecom kept the location where the test was done as a secret. The company’s production network was used with a 4G network testing device, Cobham Aeroflex TM500, as the trial receiver.

The radio frequency spectrum bands that were used included minimum of 20 MHz used from each 700 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz. In addition, two 20 MHz bands from 2600 MHz range were also used to make the bands’ total reach 100 MHz bandwidth.

“We successfully tested 1Gbps speed capability by aggregating together 100 MHz of Telstra’s spectrum holdings across five separate 4G channels integrated on our commercial end to end network,” Wright said.

He claimed that the illustration and presentation of 1Gbps end-to-end capability indicated the advanced standards of the network for commercial Internet service sector and help people enjoy speedy and uninterrupted connections. Telstra said it aims not only at satisfying its own customers, but also at the growth of its network in the business sphere.

Around two months ago, the telecom ace launched its 600 Mbps carrier along with the official launch of VoLTE calls in Australia. ITwire made a video recording of the event and made it available to the public.
