Since its release, Mojang’s “Minecraft” took the world by storm as players fell in love with the sheer simplicity and freedom the sandbox game bought. Players shared their own creations using the available materials in the game’s world. However, the game lacked a key component found in great video games: a story.

Just recently, developer Telltale Games revealed to The Verge that it will release a new game in the form of “Minecraft: Story Mode.” The upcoming adventure series is slated for a Wii U release date. It is worth noting that this is the first time that "Minecraft" will hit Nintendo consoles.

“Minecraft: Story Mode” follows a group of friends as they try to save the world. The game will feature a star-studded cast led by Patton Oswalt, who will voice the game’s protagonist, Jesse. Accompanying him are Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie from “The Last of Us,” Corey Feldman from cult-classic “The Goonies,” Billy West from Futurama and Paul Reubens, the man behind Pee-wee Herman.

Telltale Games is known for reinvigorating series with story-driven games that rely on decision making and quick time events. It has developed games for popular television shows like “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones.” The developer also created a game with their original storyline, which is “The Wolf Among Us.”

Also, this isn’t Telltale Games' first take on a video game series as it is currently developing “Tales From The Borderlands.” All titles are currently a success, so players could expect the next title to be good as well.

The first episode of Telltale Games' “Minecraft: Story Mode” is slated for a late 2015 release date for the PC, Mac, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, iOS and Android. Those who want to get the game as soon as possible can play the beta at PAX Prime this weekend.
