The shooting of Harambe, the 17-year-old gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo, sparked global outrage between animal rights and human rights group whose life is worth more – the primate or the four-year-old boy who fell in the animal’s enclosure? The incident is timely amid more posts on social media of people abusing animals.

On Sunday, the Florida-Times Union reported that three teenage girls would face animal cruelty charges for throwing a bunny against the wall several times. The girls from Jacksonville are shown in a Snapchat video even giggling and laughing while smashing the young rabbit against the wall.

It was shared it on the Nassau County … Rants, Raves and Review Facebook page by a Laura Morabito. The neighbour of the three girls, wrote, “I don’t like to post these things, but she’s in our area and We have to find out who these little girls are … Please share guys, this is absolutely disgusting and not ok. Where are the parents?!” Brobible quotes Morabito.

The juveniles were arrested on Saturday by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office after the video was posted on Facebook. The three “teens from hell” are aged 13 and 14. The teens would be handed over to the Duval Juvenile Detention Center and then turned over to their parents.

The bunny fortunately survived the smashing and was brought to the Nassau County Animal Services where it was treated for a broken leg. The animal would require additional care before it becomes available for adoption, the services said on its Facebook page.

The incident is similar to a viral video in 2013 of three Filipina teens who stomped a puppy to death. The couple who paid the girls to stomp the young dog were meted life sentences.
