If there’s one thing we know about social media, it’s that the race for total Instagram domination is a tight one. Just two weeks after Kim Kardashian took the top spot from her friend Beyonce, she finds herself relegated to second place as Country/Pop singer Taylor Swift edged ahead of Kardashian with a very narrow lead.

Swift currently boasts a whopping 45.8 million followers on the popular photo and video sharing platform. Kardashian meanwhile, is following close behind with 45.7 million . Beyonce has fallen behind the other two women with “only” 45.1 million followers.

Swift hasn’t addressed her promotion into the role of most followed person on Instagram yet and it remains to be seen how long she will hold on to the spot. The competition is almost as tight as racing to the top of the record charts, where both Swift and Beyonce have taken residence in the past several years.

“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kim, may not be selling records like pancakes but her fans clearly can’t get enough of her and her images. Apart from the top rating show, Kardashian is also the author of best-selling selfie book , “Selfish.”

Dubbed the “Queen of Selfies” by popular media, Kardashian’s images have a magnetic draw that has allowed her to go toe-to-toe with the two other women. Last week, she celebrated having 45 million followers by sharing a series of grainy selfies, which her fans lapped up with gusto.

Despite their less than friendly social media competition, the three women appear to be on good terms. Kardashian and her husband Kanye West are very close to Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z. Despite the now infamous MTV VMA speech interruption that occurred between West and Swift back in 2009, they appear to have patched things up and Swift even presented the rapper with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award in the 2015 MTV VMA Awards.
