Hugh Jackman has already previously confirmed his retirement from playing as the mutant Logan with “Wolverine 3” being his last film. While Fox has yet to reveal its plans on the character’s future, Taron Egerton recently expressed his interest to take over Jackman’s role in future “X-Men” or “Wolverine” films.

Taron Egerton shared what he feels about playing Wolverine during an interview with Screenrant about his latest film with Hugh Jackman, “Eddie The Eagle.” Yeah, I’d love to have a go at it,” he said. The “Kingsman: The Secret Service” star also mentioned how he has already talked to Hugh Jackman about the role.

“I was with Hugh the day that he announced his retirement from that role. I did joke about that very thing with him,” Egerton revealed.

However, the 25-year old also expressed his doubts over taking after Hugh Jackman’s footsteps and become the next Wolverine. Despite being a huge fan of the Marvel character, Taron Egerton thought that physically he may not qualify for the role since he is not “grizzly enough.” “I feel someone who plays Wolverine potentially needs testosterone in abundance,” he added.

Despite the actor’s interest to don on the iconic Wolverine claws, Fox has yet to reveal their plans for the character. According to Screenrant, the studio had previously considered casting a new and young actor to play as Wolverine in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” But that never happened.

Hugh Jackman has reportedly also mentioned that Fox has begun casting for a new Wolverine. So having Taron Egerton to play the character would reportedly be an intriguing choice. But according to Cinema Blend, it may take a couple more years before Fox can make its decision since Hugh Jackman is still bound to the character until “Wolverine 3” comes out in 2017.

This is not the first time that Taron Egerton’s name has been linked to a film in the “X-Men” universe. He was rumoured to play as the young Cyclops in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Howeve, that role went to Tye Sheridan instead.

Taron Egerton gained stardom playing as the young super-spy in “Kingsman: The Secret Service” opposite Colin Firth. The film had placed him under the spotlight which in turn guaranteed him numerous movie projects thereafter such as “Legend” and “Eddie the Eagle.”
