An alleged cocaine syndicate operating across Sydney has been busted, resulting in the arrest of six men. Police say AU$38,000 in cash and several guns were also seized.

A five-month-old investigation by the Strike Force Morti came to an end when they raided homes in Sydney Olympic Park, Dulwich Hill, Merrylands, Bondi Beach, Cranebrook, Panania, Granville and Greystanes on Wednesday, seizing cannabis, cocaine and Ecstasy (MDMA) with a potential street value of AU$200,000.

Among the six men arrested, police alleged that socialite George Gerges was one of them. He has been accused of supplying cocaine mainly in the metropolitan areas, earning millions of dollars in the deals. Investigation reports show that over a period of three months, he had provided 941.9 grams of cocaine worth over AU$282,000 in the Pyrmont area. Police also claimed to have found steroids in his apartment.

A 37-year-old man, named Anslem Lee, had allegedly lent his apartment to be used as a drug premises to the druggies and sold about three kilograms of cocaine worth AU$900,000. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, police said they discovered a 22-calibre rifle, a loaded pen gun, another 650 grams of cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and AU$38,000 in cash.

Gerges has not applied for bail yet. However, such was formally refused and all six men are due to appear before various courts across Sydney. Gerges’ mother had been weeping since the news of his arrest broke out. She was comforted by his father and his glamour model girlfriend Emma Rose.

Similarly, Lee has also not applied for bail and appeared before a Newtown Local Court on Thursday. Redfern Region Enforcement Squad Commander, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell, said the arrests and crushing of the syndicate were the result of their sheer hard work. "We will continue to detect and seize these drugs using various methods and by targeting drug supply and possession at all levels,” he said.
