“Supernatural” is the only show in the US that is keeping the country together, according to a new survey. In the United States, the two major political parties are Republican and Democratic, and both of them appear to watch The CW show more than the others.

Research firm E-Score recently listed the top 10 favourite programs among people who identify themselves as either Democrats or Republicans. The poll included more than 750 primetime broadcast, cable and streaming programs among Americans 18 years old and above. There were 1,200 respondents per show.

According to the survey, Democrats prefer shows that are “sexy, edgy, emotionally involving, ethnically diverse or have strong characters.” These are the shows that may be more attractive to the supporters of Democratic US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The top 3 shows that are described as “sexy” by the Democrats are “Game of Thrones,” The Haves and the Have Nots” and Suits.”

Republicans, on the other hand, prefer “family-friendly, funny, plot-driven or have storylines that involve ‘good vs evil’” shows. These programs may be more appealing to official Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s supporters.

The top 3 shows Democrats think are “ethnically diverse” are “The Haves and the Have Nots,” “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Empire.” All of these shows have a racially diverse cast and powerful lead roles for woman. These also reflect the average Democratic viewer, who is more diverse.

Republicans want shows that have clearer lines between good and evil. These shows include “The Flash,” “Arrow” and “Scorpion.” They also like “NCIS” and “Blue Bloods,” two procedural shows that have the “good vs evil” component as well.

Although the Republicans and Democrats have different tastes in television programs, they have one show in common: “Supernatural.” The CW program, the longest-running sci-fi TV program in the US, is the favourite of people in either political affiliation. In fact, according to the E-Score survey, it is the no. 1 favourite of Republicans, and the 3rd favourite of Democrats.

It’s unclear why that is. Based on the factors mentioned above, “Supernatural” is only a few of those things. It is sexy, emotionally involving and has strong good vs evil component. However, it is not as ethnically diverse as it could be or does not have as many female characters in the lead roles. It is debatable if it’s family-friendly as well, considering that the show deals with monsters, evil and the occult.
