There is speculation that Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), AKA “Supergirl,” will have a romantic link with Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), also known as “The Flash,” especially after the former has been moved from CBS to The CW. However, Benoist downplayed the rumours in an interview.

The news of “Supergirl” moving to The CW and doing crossovers with other shows has been the highlight superhero-related news for the past weeks. As more crossovers are being done by the network to strengthen their fan base, theories of Kara Danvers having a romantic relationship with Barry Allen have been coming out.

In an interview, Benoist said that Kara and Barry are more like pals than lovers. She says that she does not think that the two would get together in the future. In her view, Kara and Barry are friends who could pig out on ice cream. More so, Benoist highlighted that the two superheroes are too similar to be together as lovers. Rather, they would be great as friends, Newsarama shares.

Supergirl and the Flash met towards the end of “Supergirl” Season 1. The crossover was called “The World’s Finest.” The two had great chemistry together, which resulted to lots of comedy. However, the episode seemed more to be about two cop buddies finding each other rather than lovers.

Kara’s character unexpectedly found a mentor in Barry, who in return was happy to meet an ally friend. In their meeting, Barry was now the senior and had more experience in the superhero venture. Both of their quirkiness jammed well making Jimmy Olsen, Kara’s crush, jealous.

However, this is not The Flash’s first romantic crossover. Looking back, his crossover with “Arrow” let him have a short connection with Felicity Smoak. This happened during the early parts of Season 1.

Although The CW and Grant Gustin were openly teasing Kara and Barry, Benoist still took the downplaying route. Nonetheless, Gustin may also be simply referring to the increased appearance of Supergirl in other superhero shows, particularly in “The Flash.” It is reported that when their first crossover happened, the ratings of “Supergirl” went up 31 percent, Screen Rant reports. Because of the positive effects on the show, fans might have to wait and expect more crossovers. “Supergirl” will return for its second season on The CW.
