“Supergirl’s” move to the CW channel comes with a total revamp of the series. Viewers will see a completely different take on the show as several comic book characters and plot additions will be integrated. As the series looks bigger and better than it had been before, it has been compared to “Empire Strikes Back,” which is exactly the point of comparison for executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

Kreisberg reveals that in a way, “Supergirl” season 2 is “ almost a sequel.” In an interview with Collider, he continues that it is quite similar to the Star Wars sequel because “when you look at Empire Strikes Back compared to Star Wars, because you would already introduced the characters and gotten that out of the way, you were able to go deeper with the characters and have more introspection, and watch them grown and learn.”

He continues that the show has gotten more similar to the comic books with the introduction of Superman and a lot of things that the team will be trying. The show has also gotten richer with more vibrant characters and what they will be exploring for the upcoming season.

“Empire Strikes Back” was quite notorious during its time since it was very detailed in terms of environment and character development. A lot of filmmakers have made that movie a point of reference for their film, but Kreisberg could just be at point for his own comparison.

“Supergirl” unveils events in a very light manner, in stark comparison with how dark most superhero movies are now. Now that is has become part of a universe which it shares with other DC TV series, things are about to get more interesting to see how richer things will appear.

With “Supergirl” eyeing a season worth comparing to “Empire Strikes Back,” things for the show are sure to get much better. The addition of Miss Martian, Mon-El, the President of the United States, which will be played by former Wonderwoman Linda Carter and, most notably, Superman, who will be played by Tyler Hoechlin.

The second season of “Supergirl” will debut on screens on October 10 on the CW Channel. It also airs on Syfy in Australia.
