Supercell’s city-building sim “Clash of Clans” is gearing to have big changes soon. The developer is said to bring a massive update to bring a whole new dimension of gameplay. Aside from a new level, a new hero and structure, Supercell is also gearing to change the game’s Shield mechanic.

In a forum post by game developer Supercell, it further explained the changes coming to the Shield mechanic of “Clash of Clans.” Fans of the game will be glad to hear that their bases will be receiving extra protection.

Supercell’s plan is to promote base attacking and defending. This is a problem to many players as schedules and time conflicts could hinder their progress or set them back as compared to others. The players are in luck as Supercell is looking to help these players attack and defend more without eating up too much of their time.

One of the new additions to the game, which could help players attack and defend, is the Village Guard. Basically, the Village Guard acts like a temporary defense while the players have no active shield. Supercell fully explained the Village Guard on their forum, but an in-depth explanation of the Shield and Village Guard is detailed by YouTube account PlayClashOfClans through a video.

  • While Village Guard is active, your village acts as if you are online, even if you close the game or get disconnected
  • Players can freely attack through Village Guard with no penaltyFree Village Guard time activates automatically when shields expire, from 15 minutes to 3 hours long based on League
  • 2 hours of extra Village Guard can be bought for 10 gems every day in the shop, when your shield is down (23 hour cooldown)
  • Active Village Guard can be dismissed at any time
  • Buying a Shield from the Shop will dismiss active Village Guard
