If you are into scuba diving, then would it scare you off or attract you more if you find a sunken city underneath the waters? It has always been the topic of most travel articles to discuss underwater cities that have once been alive and filled with human civilization. These underwater cities were said to have been sunken due to various reasons while being discovered either by accident or through modern technology.

Web Urbanist mentioned Alexandria as one of the top underwater cities on their list. It is considered the place of Alexander the Great and believed by many scientists to be the ruins of what used to be Cleopatra's royal quarters. Many believed too that it was due to earthquakes about 1,500 years ago which caused the entire palace of Cleopatra to sink.

Also included in their list is the 500-year-old temple that can be found right at the bottom of Lake Kwan Phayao in Thailand. The temple sank intentionally 70 years ago and discussions are ongoing for its possible restoration which would cost billions of dollars. The only problem is that its ruins have naturally served as an undisturbed home for fishes.

Jo Marchant of New Scientist also discovered several to add to the growing list of sunken towns underneath the waters. The Port Royal of Jamaica was once known to be the most evil city on Earth due to its being a place filled with pirates and prostitutes. But all its activities ended when one day the 17th century town was just swallowed by the vast sea like a curse.

The World Mysteries site also had their own list which includes the Shore Temple Mahabalipuram in India among many others. Numerous legends revolved around it saying that there were seven temples that used to be so dazzling that the gods became full of envy and sent a flood to sink them all and left the Shore Temple without a companion.

All these and more are just some of the most highly deemed underwater cities that you should not miss. On your next scuba diving activity, which would you want to explore? To make it more scary, will there be any present city that one of us are living in which will sink someday soon?
