Viola Davis has been in talks to play Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s new film, “Suicide Squad.” It was previously reported that it was still uncertain if the “How To Get Away With Murder” star will take on the character of head of the Suicide Squad due to her busy schedule. But recently, Davis herself has reportedly confirmed her involvement in the film.

According to Comicbookmovie, Viola Davis has finally confirmed with CTV’s eTalk that she will be playing the role of Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad.” At first, the Oscar-nominated actress was reportedly hesitant to divulge the final details to host Ben Mulroney about her involvement in the film. However, her husband blurted out a definitive reply that made the actress concede thereafter. Davis finally admitted that that “yes,” she will be Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad.”

In the DC comics, Amanda Waller is described as a “ruthless woman” and leader of a team of super-villains known as the Suicide Squad. Casting Viola Davis as the formidable character is said to be a “fantastic choice,” according to Cinema Blend writer Adam Holmes. Holmes described the role of Amanda Waller as intense, but claimed Davis is definitely up to the challenge.

Additionally, casting Viola Davis for the role of Amanda Waller is a nod to the New Earth version of the character. In DC’s New Earth Version, the congressional aid is characterised by her non-threatening physical appearance. Waller is depicted as a large and older woman, while the 2011 Prime Earth version of the character features a much slimmer and younger Amanda Waller. However, despite older Waller’s size, she is also described by Time as a woman with a tough attitude when it comes to dealing with few of the popular names in the DC universe including Batman. Thus, in the comics, the character is also nicknamed as “The Wall.”

Viola Davis will join other confirmed cast members in “Suicide Squad” such as Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Davis, along with the other cast members, will reportedly start shooting the David Ayer film this summer in Toronto.
