"The Strain” Season 2 finale ended with more questions needed to be asked than answered. “What happens now?” seems to be the logical choice of question after the show ended with more human deaths than with a glimmer of hope for humanity. While Setrakian (David Bradley) finds himself new allies in his quest to defeat The Master (Robert Maillet, voiced by Robin Atkin Downes), Eph (Corey Stoll) and Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) feel defeated with the loss of their loved ones. Read on for "The Strain" Season 2 finale recap.

Episode 13 in Season 2 of “The Strain” titled “Night Train,” started with Eichorst (Richard Sammel) visiting a factory that was constructing a huge processing plant for humans. He inspects the hooks and the cages being prepared for his planned human slaughter. When asked what kind of animal processing he has in store for the factory, he merely replies “sheep.”

Meanwhile, Zach (Max Charles), Eph and Nora (Mia Maestro) are hopeful about starting anew in Georgia. They bid their farewells to Setrakian and Fet (Kevin Durand) and heads off to the station to board the last night train out of New York City. However, the train didn’t make it as far out of the railway since it was ambushed by hordes of strigois blocking the train’s path. The train skidded to a dangerous stop and Nora and Zach were forced to abandon the vehicle without Eph, who at the time of the collision was lining up at the concessionaire.

The scene changes to reveal Coco (Lizzie Brocheré) convincing Palmer not to feel defeated by Eichorst. Palmer decides to withdraw his support for Eichorst during the betting war over the Occido Lumen. Instead of providing him with the funds so he can buy the book, Palmer suddenly decides to withdraw all his money from his Swiss account. Setrakian and Fet, who momentarily thought they had lost the book to Eichorst, leaves with the Lumen but was attacked on the road by Eichorst and his strigoi minions.

Luckily, Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones), Gus (Miguel Gomez) and Silver Angel (Joaquin Cosio) came just in time to help them. Eichorst comes face-to-face with Quinlan but managed to escape. Quinlan on the other hand attempts to get the book from Setrakian. But after learning about the Ancients’ plan to destroy it for good, Quinlan and his men decide to become allies with Setrakian and Fet. Together, they travel on a ferry back to New York from Staten Island.

Meanwhile, an angry Eichorst reports to The Master about Palmer’s treachery. The Master was clearly unhappy and Palmer had to pay the price through Coco’s life.

Back at the railway station, Nora and Zach are confronted by Kelly (Natalie Brown). Just as Nora was about to cut off Kelly’s head, Zach yells at her to stop. Kelly retaliates right then and there by stinging Nora’s arm. Zach finally cries while in his mother’s arms and walks away with her back to The Master. Eph arrives to see Nora already infected. Despite being told that she’ll get through it alive, Nora still takes her own life by electrocuting herself.

The Season 2 finale of “The Strain” ended with Eph leaving the train station looking lost and defeated after Nora's death. Meanwhile, Setrakian is filled with new hope as he finally leafs through the Occido Lumen and finds the best way to kill The Master.
