Stoke City playmaker Bojan Krkic might not suit up against Manchester United on New Year's Day, as he is set to undergo tests to determine his fitness.

The 24-year-old former FC Barcelona man was taken off the pitch in their win against West Brom on matchday 19 due to a hamstring problem.

"We are still waiting to find out the full extent of Bojan's injury when he goes for a scan later this afternoon," he told Stoke City Player.

"The feeling is he has some kind of strain and there is a strong possibility he will miss the game against Manchester United."

"We will have to await the results of his scan, we may get some good news but at the moment we expect him to miss out unfortunately."

Hughes pointed out the negative effects of the Premier League's tradition of scheduling games only two days apart during the festive season.

"It's always a concern playing two full bloodied games so close to each other because it takes a lot out of the players bodies," he continued.

"They haven't got time to recover and then they're asked to play another full game of football almost immediately, so that puts players at risk unfortunately."

"Some players will have a reaction to the festive period and sadly that has happened with Bojan so it has been a bit of a disappointment."
