Stephen Curry, the reigning two-time NBA MVP, had a breakout game Saturday as the Golden State Warriors (55-14) overcame a sluggish start to beat the Milwaukee Bucks (34-35) at the Oracle Arena. Curry made 6/8 shots from deep for 28 points as the Warriors tightened their stranglehold over the No. 1 seed on a night when the San Antonio Spurs (52-16) suffered an upset defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies (40-30).

It was Curry's best shooting night since the Feb. 23 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. In recent weeks, the superstar point guard endured the worst shooting slump of his career, shooting a little over 30 percent from three-point territory during the month of March. Prior to Saturday's game, Curry had gone 2/7, 5/13, 1/8, 2/9, 6/15, 5/13 and 2/11 in seven previous games since the start of the month.

Stephen Curry's shooting slump is a thing of the past

The month of February wasn't very kind to Curry, either, as he went 2/9 and 0/11 against the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards during the final two games of the month. In fact, Curry shot a subpar .378 from deep for the month of February, despite the Warriors maintaining a 10-3 winning record.

Several onlookers at the Oracle Arena Saturday proclaimed that Curry shot himself out of the slump and should return to elite form going forward. With the playoffs less than a month away, Curry's explosion couldn't come at a better time for the Warriors, still viewed as the prohibitive favourites to win the West.

Meanwhile, Curry was grilled by reporters Saturday about MVP candidate Russell Westbrook throwing shade at the Warriors star earlier this week. After Curry picked Houston Rockets guard James Harden as his choice for MVP, Westbrook responded with "Who is he?" in reference to Curry.

“You ask anybody, and they’ll have an opinion on who they think. Whether they agree with it or not, it’s not obviously my decision. I try to stay away from those Twitter/social media/interview wars. It doesn’t do anything for me. So I will be myself, say what I think and keep it moving," Curry said ahead of the game against Milwaukee, per Mercury News.

Stephen Curry is averaging 25.0 points, 6.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds in his eighth NBA season. After shooting above .400 from deep through his first seven seasons, Curry is shooting a career-low .392 this season. Despite the dipping percentage, Curry leads the NBA for a fifth consecutive year with most 3-Pt field goals made.
