After three seasons of grand slam drought, many are wondering whether Roger Federer can add another grand slam title in his long list of accolades. At 34 years old, many are also starting to pose the question if Federer can attain such feat now that Father Time is catching up with Swiss maestro. Even if Federer is near retirement age where most tennis players bid farewell to their sporting careers, he is not going to say goodbye to the sport just yet, according to his coach Stefan Edberg.

“Roger is not near to the retirement,” Edberg told Sportklub.rs, reported Tennis World USA . “Federer is like the good wine, he played a very good season, he won several important tournaments and he showed that he can compete against Novak Djokovic despite being 34.”

The sport of tennis is no stranger to integrating new strokes, tips, and tricks that can help every player improve tennis performance. The Swedish coach believes that Federer, who has reinvented his game, can get better even more.

Edberg also spoke about Federer’s style of play. He said that Federer opts to exert less effort than he is capable of in to ensure that he has got enough energy left in his tank. He added that Federer tries to win easy points from his net play, sneaking in to the net when his opponents least expect it, but also admitted that it has worked only on some of Federer’s matches and that the Swiss needs more time to master it.

Federer hired Edberg as his coach at the end of 2013. However, the pair officially started working together ahead of the 2014 Australian Open, where he reached the final four before losing in straight sets 7-6 6-3 6-3 to ensuing runner-up Rafael Nadal. Since falling to Novak Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4 in the finale of the 2015 US Open, the 34-year-old tennis maestro led Switzerland in their World Group playoff tie against the Netherlands 4-1.

Federer is set to play his next tournament at the 2015 Shanghai Rolex Masters from Oct. 11 to Oct. 18, 2015. He is looking to defend his title after beating Frenchman Gilles Simon 7-6 7-6 last year.
