Starbucks is releasing a limited edition Mother’s Day card preloaded with $50. The card is worth $200 and can be reloaded with more money and accumulates reward points for every purchase.

Starbucks' limited edition Mother’s day card is not the first of its kind from the company. It had earlier launched the special designer cards where the pre-loaded dollar value was less than its actual cost. Many customers felt that this 400% mark-up did not reflect the value. But the Company website quotes that it is “more than just a gift card and extremely unique.” The stainless steel card came with floral etchings and a satin ceramic finish. Only 1500 cards are available and would be sold only on-line. There is also a limit of one card per customer. Starbucks Mother’s day card also comes in a matching metal box and free shipping.

Earlier Starbucks had come up with a Silver card for the holiday season which was also loaded with $50. The silver card retailed at $200 and the company defended the price “as the actual value of the sterling silver that went in to making the card and the key ring that came along with it.” The Rose Gold Cards which came out in 2013 sold out quickly and was worth $450. The Mother’s day card is till available on-line and is first of the kind from the Starbucks Company.
