Little is known yet regarding the filming for the “Star Wars” spinoff film. The movie is said to be in its early stages of pre-production with Gareth Edwards as director and Gary Whitta as writer. However, some details were leaked recently regarding some reshoots happening for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” that also involves the spinoff.

Sources for Making Star Wars claimed the spinoff will mainly be doing on location scenes compared to “The Force Awakens,” which mostly filmed at Pinewood Studios. The standalone will reportedly be heading to Mexico to shoot. Start dates have supposedly already been given to crews. According to the sources, the spinoff will be recycling some materials used in the reshoot for J.J. Abrams’ movie. “Painters are expected to redress some set pieces from The Force Awakens and there are lots of cost cutting measures like that in place for the first spin-off film. Most of the reshoot materials are to be saved when possible for this reason,” writer Jason Ward said. Additionally, sources confirmed the importance of bounty hunters in the standalone film.

Slashfilm once released a spoiler report regarding the “Star Wars” spinoff movie. According to the site, the movie’s plot revolves around a group of characters who are going to try and steal the plans for the first Death Star. These characters are believed to be the bounty hunters and not the Rebel Alliance, although the movie is said to take place during the “New Hope” era. The site described the presence of the hunters as “the Seven Samurai or Suicide Squad meets Ocean’s Eleven in the world of Star Wars.”

Some “Star Wars” insiders supposedly confirmed the involvement of the bounty hunters based on the plot for “A New Hope.” The latter was a period of rebel spies who “managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR.” Slashfilm claimed these bounty hunters could actually stand in for the rebels in the spinoff. In the standalone they would reportedly be hired by the rebels to steal Death Star’s plans. However, Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to comment on this rumoured plot.
