There will apparently be a connection between “Star Wars Rebels” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Producer/Director Dave Filoni revealed in a recent interview. The animation series is set in a timeline just before the upcoming movie, giving it room to introduce characters and events that will have a connection to the film.

The TV series is now in its third season. At the centre of all the action is Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), a young Jedi in danger of being seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. The Rebels encounter officers of the Empire, such as Agent Kallus (David Oyelowo), and familiar villains like Grand Moff Tarkin (Stephen Stanton) and Darth Vader (James Earl Jones).

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Filoni pointed out that the show is closer in terms of the timeline to the upcoming movie. So, there are a lot of things to consider in “Star Wars Rebels” in order to make sure that the TV series allows “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” to make exciting revelations, while at the same time keeping the show interesting.

When asked to comment about the connection between the TV series and the movie, Filone said that the two have influenced each other, and things have been “accounted for.” He pointed out that the film had a very gritty tone, whereas the TV series is much more colourful, at least in the beginning.

As the TV series gets closer to the film in the timeline, “things are going to naturally line up.” Filoni also teased that the colourful tone of the show is “meant to be able to ingest the look of certain things” in the movie. This, the producer promised, will be “a lot of fun” for the fans.

Will some of the characters from “Star Wars Rebels” crossover to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”? The fans will have to wait for the movie to be released to find out.
