Andy Serkis finally breaks his silence about Supreme Leader Snoke’s physical appearance in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The actor has revealed details about the villain character’s unrealistic facial qualities and a little on his background story in the sequel.

Serkis said in a recent interview with Collider that there’s a very good reason why he had to portray Supreme Leader Snoke through motion capture. The villain in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” cannot be created in real life even through make-up and multiple layers of prosthetics.

“The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure,” he said.

Serkis revealed Supreme Leader Snoke is “very much a newly-introduced character in the “Star Wars” Universe. He has not existed in the previous saga. However, in “The Force Awakens,” the villain character is said to have existed for a very long time.

“He has suffered a lot of damage. He’s aware of what’s gone on, in the respect that he has been around and is aware of prior events. I think it’d be fair to say that he is aware of the past to a great degree,” Serkis told Collider.

As for the character’s traits, Serkis told Collider that Supreme Leader Snoke is a “powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” The villain is said to be “quite powerful” but he can also be both enigmatic and vulnerable at the same time. It’s this vulnerability that reportedly masks his true agenda with the Empire.

Serkis’ interview with Collider confirms previous reports that the villain has existed for a very long time. Somehow his descriptions of Supreme Leader Snoke in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as someone who is enigmatic and very powerful coincide with previous rumours claiming the character is some kind of alien Sith who has trained with the old Sith Palpatine. Serkis reportedly plays the role of someone who has “unnatural” powers.
