John Boyega, who plays Finn in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” recently opened up about his experience using the lightsaber. The actor also recalled his reaction when he first received his very own lightsaber, which fans have so far already seen in the film trailers.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Boyega recalled how the iconic Jedi weapon was handed to him while filming for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The actor said he was so overjoyed when he received his own lightsaber that he felt the heavens open up for him.

“Man, the lightsaber came in this case. The guys brought it out and I’m like, ‘Now’s the moment, now’s the time.’ I held it in my hand and I just felt, you know, the clouds open up and the white doves come flying down. It feels very, very good,” he said.

Boyega said he felt a sense of obligation to keep the Jedi weapon safe and away from other people’s grasp. So, he reportedly had the lightsaber with him the whole day, hugging it and not allowing anyone else but himself to hold it.

It’s long been rumoured that Finn’s lightsaber in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” previously belonged to the Jedi Master himself, Luke Skywalker. However, the weapon was initially supposed to be given to Rey (Daisy Ridley).

Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o) reportedly had the lightsaber first but she hands it to Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and tells her to give it to Finn, so he can give it to Rey. However, Finn took an instant liking to the Jedi weapon and uses it for himself.

Finn uses it to fight the villain Stormtroopers and even during a fight with Kylo Ren, as seen below in the TV spot highlighting Finn. In “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Finn reportedly also uses his lightsaber during a scene in the film where he, Rey, Chewbacca and Han Solo try to infiltrate the First Order fortress. Finn supposedly uses it to cut through a powerful shield that protects the First Oder base. There are speculations that Finn may be Force sensitive because he is so attuned to the lightsaber.
