J.J. Abrams has already established that Planet Jakku will be featured in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” during the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. However, a recent online report gives further credence to the movie director’s confirmation after the planet was given highlight.

Starwars7news.com recently noticed that Star Wars.Com, the official site dedicated to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” had actually given an interactive look at Planet Jakku on its page. However, it takes a little bit of mouse-play and a bit of keen eye for someone to see a glimpse of the desert planet.

Clicking and dragging the mouse at the top right corner of the page will rotate the starfield, which consists of the image gallery from the trailers. Further along the rotation an unfamiliar looking planet will be seen. Starwars7news provided a zoomed out photo of the planet for better viewing.

Matt Martin from Lucasfilm has confirmed through his Twitter page that the planet featured in Star Wars. Com is indeed Planet Jakku. It was reportedly added on the site in April, in time with the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim.

When casts and crew for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” headed to Abu Dhabi for production there were speculations of the desert planet of Tatooine being featured in the film. When the first trailer confirmed the desert scenes, fans thought J.J. Abrams was bringing back Tatooine in the sequel. However, he revealed while on stage at the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim that the planet is not Tatooine but Jakku.

According to Cinema Blend, “When Abrams spoke about the location, he said that Star Wars needs to operate as ‘a western and a fairy tale’ so much as it does as a sci-fi adventure and he spoke of John Ford-esque landscapes.” The director had assured that fans will soon be learning more details about Planet Jakku. Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm has reportedly bought the domain name for PlanetJakku.com to provide further information about the new location in the Star Wars Universe.

What’s for certain is the presence of alien creatures in Planet Jakku. J.J. Abrams alluded to the desert planet in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in an interview with Vanity Fair. Talking about applying practical effects to scenes, the director recalled using “a classic, old-school seesaw puppet” instead of CGI to represent a Jawa-like creature that thrives in Jakku.
