It’s been widely reported that Han Solo dies in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” However, according to a film extra there’s a chance that his Millennium Falcon co-pilot will also meet his demise. [Spoiler Alert]

An anonymous source, who Epic Stream describes as having worked for a popular TV series, said he was able to talk to a supporting actor from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” who was involved with the sequel for a couple of weeks. This film extra reportedly recalled witnessing a scene being filmed in the Greenham Common airbase where he overheard Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) say, “I don't know how he will cope without him.”

When asked who Princess Leia was talking to in the scene, the film extra said, “a couple of Wookiees but now (sic) Chewy.” When quizzed whether he was hinting that Chewbacca dies in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the supporting cast reportedly told him that could be the case, although he couldn’t be certain.

Moviepilot offers the theory that Chewbacca will be killed to give the film its purpose, which is to have the sequel focus on the purpose of the young characters Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe (Oscar Isaac). They reportedly still have to gain that same respect and love viewers have for to the legendary and classic film characters such as Chewbacca and Han Solo. So according to writer Kit Simpson Browne, what better way to achieve this than to have “someone part of the history, but not actually integral to the plot at any point” die in the film. It’s believed Chewie’s death could offer a valuable lesson to Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron.

In the “Star Wars” novels, Chewbacca dies a hero, a noble death, after he saves his friends from the alien enemies. Whether this will be played out in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is uncertain. Likewise, whether Chewbacca really dies in the sequel is still considered a rumour until otherwise confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney. Han Solo has been widely reported as the character who dies in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and not his Millennium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca.
