Star Wars Celebration 2018 is not going to happen at all as the event was cancelled. The next event is instead happening at a later year as confirmed by the show’s official website. The announcement reads, “The Next Star Wars Celebration: Coming to Our Galaxy 2019.”

While it leaves some fans distressed, the delay should not come as a surprise since the show has not set a definite schedule. According to Inside The Magic, the Star Wars Celebration event began in 1999 to mark the launch of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.” Events were then held biennially or annually.

But things have changed as far as the Star Wars film series is concerned. New instalments in the franchise now come annually. “The Force Awakens” premiered in 2015, followed by “Rogue One” a year after.

The movie that is set to come this year is “The Last Jedi.” The untitled Han Solo movie is slated to be released sometime in 2018. Since there will be no Star Wars Celebration next year, it suggests that this year’s show is the last before the Han Solo movie.

Although the 2018 event has been cancelled, fans can be assured that this year’s event is sure to push through. It is scheduled on April 13-16 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

The upcoming event next month is expected to unveil the first trailer for “The Last Jedi.” Writer-director Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will both be present in the event. Express notes that the first footage for the upcoming film reportedly features Rey (Daisy Ridley). They will appear on a panel together to discuss the upcoming film. General Leia (the late Carrie Fisher), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and Finn (John Boyega) are also expected to appear in the clip.

It is likely that the event will feature special guests and surprises too. "While specifics are still under wraps, the talk promises to feature a few surprises and special guests, kickstarting what is sure to be an exciting and memorable weekend," StarWars.com posts. Fans are advised to check the website for details about securing tickets, as well as wristband information. They can also check the Star Wars Celebration website for other updates.

The event, as the website says, is the ultimate community fan gathering. No definite details have been announced for the next event after this year yet. Set and location for the 2019 event is expected to be announced in the near future.
