After recent events on the show it seemed like Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) will have a lesser role to play in “Star Trek Discovery” season 2. However, in a recent interview Rapp teased that his character is very much a part of the story, and he will be seen dealing with the aftermath of all that has happened to him. The following article contains spoilers from the first season.

Paul was dealt a double blow in the first season. After losing his partner, there’s uncertainty surrounding the character’s future and the future of his technology - the spore drive. In an interview with TrekMovie, Rapp said that he’s grateful to the writers for giving his character the chance to deal with all the events from the first season as the story moves forward.

Rapp explained that there wasn’t enough time on the show to focus on Paul dealing with what’s happened in the first season. “So, there are some things that are in question about what it means for my future. It’s an exploration, which is really satisfying to get to play,” Rapp said.

As far as Paul’s job on the ship is concerned, Rapp teased that it’s in a flux at the moment. What work the character will do in the next season, and how his job will transition into something new; the fans will have to wait and watch to find out.

Rapp also teased that there will be many “quite moments” for the main characters in season 2. The actor said that he feels the cast members have earned these scenes, which he said are very meaningful. He is grateful for these moments, and hopes that they reach the audience in the way the cast and crew intend them to.

“Star Trek Discovery” season 2 is set to air sometime in 2019.
