A new teaser countdown has gone live for Square Enix’s upcoming new “Tomb Raider” game. A simple HTML check on the webpage, however, reveals that the latest instalment will indeed be titled “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” and will be released on September 14, 2018.

Head over to the official Tomb Raider website and you’d see "March 15th, 2018 6:00 am PDT" (March 16, 2018 12 am AEDT), the date and time when Square Enix announces important news regarding Lara Croft’s newest adventure. The webpage is plastered with a black backdrop, in the middle of which is an image of what looks like an eclipse.

Inspecting the HTML of a webpage is easy no matter the browser. If you do so on this particular page, you’d spot the hidden message: “Shadow of The Tomb Raider is the climatic finale of Lara's origin story. Available September 14th 2018.”

There’s still a few hours left before the big reveal, but the event is already besieged with leaks. In fact, the teaser trailer for “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” has been posted on a Facebook page. The video, although blurry, appears to show several action-packed scenes, but patient fans need to wait for the legitimate version to appreciate it even more.

This new Lara Croft game has long suffered leaks. In 2016, a Redditor spotted a presentation for “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” being worked on by a fellow passenger on a subway train.

Square Enix’s upcoming announcement is fitting, considering that the new “Tomb Raider” flick is about to release in US theatres on March 16 (March 15 in Australia). The movie stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, with the storyline heavily inspired by that of the reboot released in 2013.

Based on the “Shadow” in the title and the image of the eclipse on the webpage, one can assume that the upcoming game would take on a more serious tone, possibly tackling a darker side of Lara.
