Screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein recently confirmed during an interview with NPR.org that the reboot film will explore Spider-Man’s humour. They also revealed some details about their cinematic approach to the character.

After days of keeping mum, both Daley and Goldstein finally confirmed with NPR.org that they are writing the screenplay for the “Spider-Man” reboot. When asked about how they will approach the web crawler’s story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daley teases the web crawler will retain its trademark humour as in the comics.

“He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor,” he said.

Goldstein also told Deadline that they were able to convince Marvel and Sony to let them write the script for the reboot after expressing their intent to move from broad comedy to action comedy. It reportedly also helped that Kevin Feige wanted to take on the John Hughes’ version of the web crawler for the new Spider-Man film, which both Daley and Goldstein are familiar with after co-directing and writing the John Hughes-created franchise “Vacation.”

Having Daley and Goldstein on board to write the screenplay for the “Spider-Man” reboot will definitely bring in a lot of good humour to the film. They have had extensive record when it comes to the comedy genre. Both have worked together on numerous comedy films in the past including the two “Horrible Bosses” movie, the animation “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.”

In a previous interview with IGN back in April, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also expressed his intent to show Spider-Man’s wit in the reboot, which he feels the previous films have not really explored. He said showing the web crawler’s humour is just among the many other exciting adventures of the hero that Marvel and Sony plans to feature in the film.

“The notion of his sense of humour, that when he puts his mask on in the comics, he has a non-stop wit that is almost as troublesome to the bad guys he is fighting as his webs and agility,” he said.
