Tom Holland has been chosen by Marvel as the new Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot. In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed why the young actor grabbed the role among many other male contenders.

In an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige said Tom Holland’s screen test with Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) had also played a part in the young star landing the Spider-Man role. When asked whether it was the chemistry between the two actors that helped, Feige replied, "That was part of it. When we’ll see that, I don’t know, but that was part of it."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, among Charlie Rowe and Tom Holland, the latter was the only contender also asked to do a final screening with “Captain America” star Chris Evans. Sources claimed the 19-year old was “tested separately with Downey and Chris Evans.” Robert Downey Jr. reportedly also participated in some screen tests with Sony Producer Amy Pascal and with Kevin Feige.

In the same interview with Collider, Kevin Feige was also pressed for details about the screen test Tom Holland did with Robert Downey Jr. When asked if the dialogues used in the test were from “Captain America: Civil War” or something new, Feige replied, "It was a combination, it was mainly written for the screen test though."

“[They're] usually just bespoke for a test with different names and things. So they call each other different names,” he added.

Apparently, Marvel and Sony were impressed with the result of Tom Holland’s screen test for the Spider-Man role. Tom Rothman, Chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group, had this to say about the new Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man star. “For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special,” he said in an official statement.

Tom Holland will debut as the new Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man with a cameo appearance in “Captain America: Civil War.” The young actor will then star in his titular role in the “Spider-Man” reboot, which has been scheduled for a theatre release on July 28, 2017 under the direction of Jon Watts.
