Everyone is excited about the upcoming reiteration of Spider-Man. More than anything, fans are wondering who Tom Holland’s Peter Parker would be dating. The trailers reveal Zendaya as the hero's love interest in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but nobody knew who exactly she is portraying - until now.

Earlier rumours thought that her character was a race-swapped Mary Jane Watson, but comic fans insisted she is playing Michelle Rodriguez, a police officer who Peter Parker dated in the comics. Fans might not have noticed, but there is some detail (or the lack thereof) that sets apart Zendaya’s Michelle from any other character from Peter Parker’s friends in school. Marvel has been careful about not revealing her surname. This is because revealing such would be too much of a giveaway, not to mention it will reveal too much about what is going to happen later on.

The book where “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is based revealed the full name of Zendaya’s character: Michelle Toomes, writes Independent. This could seem like a giveaway for Spider-Man fans who have followed the comic books. However, those who do not find this surname familiar might be surprised to know that she shares this surname with the villain in this movie, Adrian, who is also known as The Vulture, played by Michael Keaton.

This means that Zendaya will be playing The Vulture’s daughter. This corroborates the actress’ words that her character is neither Mary Jane Watson nor Peter Parker’s romantic interest.

This fits with everything that had been revealed so far, notes Movie Pilot. It was said earlier that Michael Keaton’s Vulture is a not-so-lucky blue collar worker who resorts to desperate means to make ends meet for his family. There have been hints that viewers would get to meet his family, but Keaton has not been saying much in interviews.

This personal touch is a classic Spider-Man concept, which is one reason why he is a well-loved superhero. Spider-Man has always been shown torn between his two identities. Sam Raimi’s trilogy was built on this principle, and it is highly possible that this will be repeated in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
